Indocement Planted Mangrove at Bahagia Beach Muara Gembong

Penanaman pohon mangrove

As a concern of Indocement in preserving the mangrove forest ecosystem in Indonesia, Indocement with Lions Club International Jakarta and the Mangrove Rehabilitation Center Foundation planted mangrove seeds on the coast of Bahagia Village Beach, Muara Gembong, North Bekasi on Saturday, March 4 2023. This activity was attended by Alipbata Pokdarwis Representatives, Muara Gembong Village Government Representatives, Representatives of the Central Mangrove Rehabilitation Foundation, President of Lions Club Jakarta Menteng Raya 64 (LCJMR64), as well as representatives of Indocement's CSR and Corporate Communication teams.

The coast of Bahagia Village Beach was chosen as the location for planting mangroves because this area has experienced major damage due to abrasion which caused seawater to enter the mainland of Bahagia Village Beach. Mangrove planting is the most effective way to prevent this abrasion from becoming more widespread. In addition, mangrove plants are also able to absorb and store carbon in large quantities and for a long time, so they can play a role in mitigating climate change.

The mangrove planting carried out was the first stage of planting 11,000 trees which will continue in May with a total of 20,000 trees. Indocement itself has donated 1,000 mangrove trees in this first phase.

Hopefully this mangrove planting effort can prevent widespread abrasion and help restore the environmental ecosystem which is the habitat of various species and where the local community lives.
