About the Quarry Life Award (QLA)

The QLA is a scientific and educational contest initiated by Heidelberg Materials and its subsidiaries. The competition aims to raise awareness about the value of biodiversity in mining areas and share new best practices with the scientific community, NGOs, authorities, and Heidelberg Materials' operational units.

Since its inception in 2012, the QLA has grown into a global achievement and success. Previous editions' data prove this. More than 100 quarries have been opened for research in over 25 countries, with more than 1,100 project proposals received, over 300 projects implemented, and involving over 1,000 researchers.
